Our Philosophy and Experience
Raising children in a high-tech world can present challenges for parents, and we have created TinySpark to meet that need. Over the past 20 years, Melrose Co-founders Patti Moody & Amanda Mattsson have collaborated with various experts and organizations, as well as participated in hundreds of hours of training to refine our approach. This journey has equipped us with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and skills, all of which are embedded in the TinySpark program. Our commitment to continuous improvement ensures that TinySpark remains at the forefront of early childhood education.
TinySpark Philosophy
What is TinySpark?
TinySpark is not a curriculum; it’s a holistic approach to early childhood development that focuses on connection, as well as meeting the child where they are. We have come to believe that this is a lifestyle that can change lives. As children grow and develop through a play-based environment, the adults can see how important this is to our self-regulation experience.
Mindfulness Practice: We incorporate age-appropriate mindfulness activities that help children develop self-awareness, focus, and emotional resilience. These practices lay a foundation for lifelong mental well-being.
Social Emotional Regulation Skills: These skills are aimed at helping children understand and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, and navigate social interactions with confidence and empathy.
Building Confidence, Communication, and Independence: TinySpark focuses on empowering children to become confident, articulate, and self-reliant. By enhancing their communication skills and fostering independence, we ensure that our young learners are prepared to face new challenges with courage and determination.
Huck’s Cozy Cove: TinySpark believes in giving children a cozy space, known as Huck’s Cozy Cove, where they can learn to self-soothe, gather their thoughts, and calm their bodies. With the help and guidance of a grownup, children will feel safe and comfortable in this area as they learn to control their big emotions. Huck’s Cozy Cove is equipped with calming tools such as sensory bottles, mirrors, squishy balls, and pinwheels.
PLAY: Child-led, child-directed: Simply put, play is a child’s work. It is the key to developing executive function during those early years of development. When a child is given the time to freely explore an environment, neural connections are made and creativity can thrive.
